Smoky Quartz, Schorl and Hyalite Opal BARG 035

Smoky quartz, schorl and hyalite opal

Measurements:  72 x 59 x 30 mm

Description:  A group of light smoky quartz crystals with schorl crystals (variety foitite) on a matrix of quartz and feldspar. A few of the tiny schorl needles bridge crystals.

Most of the quartz (and some of the schorl) crystals are partially covered with a thin coating of greyish and orangy-brown (to us, unknown) mineral. There are also patches of hyalite opal (mostly on the schorl) that will fluoresce under ultraviolet light.

Some of the quartz crystals have nicks, and there is damage to some of the edges of the specimen, as well as a large pressure mark near the side.
