Quartz Crystal with Light Amethyst Colouring, on Matrix - NBB 092

Quartz crystal with amethyst colouring, on matrix

Measurements:  70 x 55 x 65 mm

Description:  A quartz crystal (25 x 13 x 11 mm) with light amethyst colouring and interesting patterns on the termination facets, sits at an angle in / on a bed of greyish calcite crystals which, in turn, sit on a matrix of basalt rock.  A few calcite (or perhaps analcime(?) crystals are attached to the surface of the crystal near its base. The lower ± third of the crystal is slightly milky.

There are only a few red and dark blueish hematite specks and a minute (still) bubble included, as well as a lovely rainbow, seen when tilted in light.

There is an extremely minute nick to the termination ridge, hardly visible with the naked eye.  Only slight damage to the outer edges of the matrix, in a few places.

The specimen displays well on a flat surface, with the amethyst crystal at an angle of roughly 65º.
