Demantoid Garnets on Feldspar – NER 052

Measurements:  44 x 32 x 20 mm 

Description:  Andradite (variety demantoid) garnets, with the largest being 8 mm on edge, sit on a conglomerate matrix of garnets and feldspar. 

The main crystal appears to be damaged, but when inspected with a loupe, it looks like pressure marks. The specimen, besides contact and pressure marks, have no notable damage.

                                       KAlSi₃O₈  (feldspar)   

Hardness on Mohs Scale:  (garnets)  6.5-7
                                          (feldspar)  6 - 6.5
