Aquamarine, Schorl and Feldspar – NERA 025

Measurements:  42 x 26 x 23 mm

Description:  A group of pale blue aquamarine crystals with numerous schorl needles (variety foitite) in and on them. These sit on a feldspar matrix.

The aquamarine crystals have only a few very small nicks.

Chemical Composition:  Be₃Al₂Si₆O₁₈ (aquamarine) 
                                       NaFe²⁺₃Al₆Si₆O₁₈(BO₃)₃(OH)₄ (schorl)    
                                       KAlSi₃O₈ (feldspar)  

Hardness on Mohs Scale:  (aquamarine) 7.5 - 8.0
                                          (schorl)  7.5                 
                                          (feldspar)  6 - 6.5
