Green Fluorite on Quartz – SNCO 089

Gemmy, green fluorite crystal with pyrite inclusions, on quartz

Measurements:  37 x 25 x 18 mm

Description:  A gemmy, green fluorite crystal with very small pyrite crystal inclusions, sits on a neat cluster of milky quartz crystals, partially coated with very minute, brownish-purple crystals (possibly chalcedony - image middle right).

Like many of these fluorite specimens from Riemvasmaak, it has undergone a complicated cleaning technique with strong acid whereby unwanted coatings are dissolved, to expose the fluorite crystals better. During this process, some of the matrix around the green crystals have been affected (white areas).

The quartz has some damage, and the fluorite has a flaw.
