Fluorite Crystals In and On Quartz Crystals – SNCO 100

Green fluorite crystals in and on quartz crystals

Measurements:  65 x 50 x 20 mm

Description:  A group of off-white quartz crystals, partially overcoated with drusy, small crystals. Partially embedded in this group of quartz crystals, are a few green fluorite crystals. These have inclusions of minute pryite crystals. There are also other bits of brownish and pinkish minerals attached, possibly chalcedony.

Like many of these fluorite specimens from Riemvasmaak, it has undergone a complicated cleaning technique with strong acid whereby unwanted coatings are dissolved, to expose the fluorite crystals better. During this process, some of the matrix around the green crystals have been affected (white areas).

Except for minute nicks to the termination (barely visible with the naked eye), the only damage is at the bottom where it parted from its matrix.
