Description: A gemmy, clear quartz crystal with another crystal having developed around its base across three of its shaft facets. When tilted in light, two tiny rainbows can be seen: one where the smaller crystal joins the bigger one, and another in the base of the bigger crystal. The base of the two crystals are recrystallized, with interesting facets having formed (see 2 images upper right). Included in the specimen, are a few very minute balls of clinochlore. Follow this link for a microscopic image of one of these in a similar crystal, and more information. The
minute indentations on the surface are where these balls used to be,
and have since eroded, and stained by (?)goethite. No
damage visible. The bits of black are (?)goethite. Weight of Specimen: 5.6 g Chemical
